The National Diabetes Prevention Program is an initiative of the Sight Center of Northwest PA. — and we’re here to help!
Did you know that one in three U.S. adults is at risk for developing Type 2 diabetes? It is a serious disease that can cause blindness, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure and loss of limbs.
Reduce The Risk
If you’re at risk for Type 2 diabetes we offer a 12 month program, recognized by the Centers for Disease Control, that can help lower your risk by more than 58% and 71% in adults over the age of 60.
Our program is designed to help people make lifestyle changes through diet and exercise, with full support from our team and fellow participants. Our goal is to help participants lose 7% of their starting body weight through the following healthy lifestyle habits:
- Accountability
- Intuitive eating
- Meal preparation
- Weight loss
- Stress management
- Boosted energy tips
- Increase physical activity by 150 minutes per week
The program offers support through regular meetings to encourage participants and help keep their goals on track.
Take Action: National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP)
To participate in the NDPP you must be 18 years or older or have been diagnosed with prediabetes by your physician.
For the first 16 weeks of the program, participants attend weekly meetings and then move to monthly sessions for the remainder of the year. Sessions are offered virtually or in various locations in Erie, Crawford, Venango, Warren, and McKean counties.
We’re devoted to helping you make a positive change. With our guidance, you’ll be on the road to feeling healthier and living a happier life!
